Clovis Point Joins the Long Island Merlot Alliance

CUTCHOGUE, NY and JAMESPORT, NY - March 20, 2009
Clovis Point and the Long Island Merlot Alliance proudly announce that the winery has become a member of the Alliance.
“With three merlot-based wines in our portfolio, Clovis Point is certainly committed to the idea of advancing the quality of and esteem for merlot on Long Island,” said Hal Ginsburg, a partner in Clovis Point, whose wines illustrate the Long Island Merlot Alliance credo: that the merlot grape’s expression in Long Island red wines makes for some of the best wines in America, if not the world. With its first vintage in 2004, “Clovis Point is a young winery,” he continues, “but our wines are of extremely high quality. Vineyard management is a top priority for us, so we’re very enthusiastic about advancing research into optimum growing practices and taste profiles. We believe that, by becoming a member of the Merlot Alliance, we are ensuring that this research continues, despite state cuts in funding.”
Clovis Point will contribute two barrels of 100% merlot wine from its 2007 vintage to the production of the 2010 release of Merliance, the Long Island Merlot Alliance’s private-label merlot, a blend of merlot wines from all member-wineries. With Clovis Point aboard, the Long Island Merlot Alliance is comprised of five quality wine producers: Pellegrini, Raphael, Sherwood House and Wölffer Estate. Each member whose wine is in the blend makes available Merliance in its tasting room, wine club and website.

About Clovis Point

In 2001, Clovis Point purchased 10 acres of farm land in Jamesport, at the heart of the North Fork of Long Island, with a dream of creating a small top-flight vineyard, winery and wine room geared toward lovers of fine wine. Clovis Point is committed to investing sufficient resources to grow extremely high-quality merlot, chardonnay, cabernet franc in its vineyard and to produce world-class wines in its winery. Indeed, the partners committed to reinvesting all sales proceeds back into the business for at least 10 years with the expectations that the grape and wine quality will improve every year.
